Preform epoxy
Multi-Seals Inc., Manchester, Conn.

Uniform epoxy is an alternative to liquid epoxy for high-volume, high-quality epoxy sealing applications. These preforms are one-part epoxy resins that are solid at room temperature. When heated, they melt and cure, forming a consistent seal that protects components from dust, moisture, oil, flux, solvents, conformal coatings, and other contaminants. Close tolerances on preform configurations, consistent premixed ratios of resin to catalyst, and consistent viscosity from beginning to end of batch ensure uniform, high-quality results, according to the manufacturer. Preforms can be dispensed as rapidly as 200 to 600 parts per minute with little or no operator training, and extensive operator experience is not required to produce uniform results.

To meet the extreme temperature requirements, the pumps are rated for continuous duty operating temperature ranges from -40°C to 100°C. The Cardinal pumps also have other features for transformer oil applications, such as the capability to permit thermo-siphon flow when the pump is not operating, allowing natural convection even when the pump is completely shut off. For long life in the field, all Cardinal pumps offer rugged split casing design with heavy-duty class 30 cast iron used for the pump casting, motor enclosures, impellers and volutes. Cardinal pumps are low maintenance and long-lasting. With no mechanical seals, repair and upkeep are reduced to using two gasket seals on each pump. The pumps are durable and resilient because transformer oil can flow back through the motor and bearings, providing cooling and lubrication.

Temper- ature meter
Omega Engineering Inc., Stamford, Conn.
Heavy-duty Atlas MaxTite blind threaded inserts feature a thicker head and heavier wall than standard types to serve in demanding high-load applications. These fasteners provide permanent metal threads in "blind" attachment applications, where only one side of a workpiece is accessible for fastener installation and final component assembly. These inserts are practical alternatives to tapped holes, weld nuts, rivets, and self-drilling or tapping screws, and can be installed permanently anywhere using a hand-held portable tool. An added advantage, according to the company, is that during fastener installation, several thin sheets of dissimilar materials can be assembled and then final components can be attached, saving production steps, time, and costs.
