Process sample filtration
Parker Hannifin Corp., Haverhill, Mass.
Fast loop Balston sample filters offer real-time sampling with high-efficiency filtration. The unique flow pattern continuously flushes the filter cartridge carrying the contaminants back out to the process stream, thus maximizing the filter cartridge life. Axial velocity flushes contaminants through the filter housing back to the process stream. The sample stream passes through the filter cartridge wall with low flow and radial velocity. The clean side of the sample filter system has very low volume, which minimizes lag time. The cartridges come in efficiencies from 100 micrometers to 0.01mm.

Sensor system
PCB Piezotronics Inc., Depew, N.Y.
The Torkdisc rotary torque sensor system is a compact, inline unit, especially designed for automotive powertrain dynamometers and other torque measurement applications that require a robust torque transducer where axial space is at a premium. The Torkdisc features a field proven telemetry system that consists of an onboard electronic module that converts torque signals into a high-speed digital representation. Once in digital form, this data is transmitted to a non-contacting pickup loop, with no risk of noise or data corruption. A remote receiver unit converts the digital data to a high-level analog output voltage, frequency output, and a serial digital output. Typical applications include dynamometer testing of gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials.

Dynamom- eter tables
Magtrol Inc., Buffalo, N.Y.
The company is now offering eight standard dynamometer tables. Each has been specifically designed to accommodate one of Magtrol's hysteresis/engine or eddy-current/powder brake dynamometers, and can be customized to meet the needs of most testing applications. Besides strength, these corrosion-resistant tables offer two key benefits, por-
tability and versatility, according to the manufacturer. Many dyna- mometers are very difficult to move once fixed to a stationary workbench. Magtrol dynamometer tables eliminate this shortcoming, according to the company. These tables are useful for moving dynamometers to alternate testing stations because the stand is manufactured out of lightweight aluminum with casters for smooth mobility. The company can modify its basic table design to accommodate as many as three
dynamometers.

Production vises
Jergens Inc., Cleveland, Ohio
BallLock base production vises are intended to provide quick-change fixturing solutions in two ways: Jaw changeovers take less than a minute and the BallLock mounting system built in the vise's base permits one-minute changeover of vises. The vise's base also has an interlocking jigsaw pattern, which permits multiple vises to nest closely together, maximizing workpiece density on a fixture. By combining these features, the Jergens production vise provides a quick change replacement to conventional dedicated fixtures as well as to old-style vises. All jaws, which come in 4-in. and 6-in. widths, are fully machinable and reversible, providing more flexibility for each jaw set.

Circulation heater
Watlow, St. Louis, Mo.
The Cast-X Series 2000 circulation heater provides fluid heating in a compact package where cleanliness, temperature accuracy, and high pressure are needed. Applications include solvent heating, heat transfer systems, ultrapure gas heating, food and beverage heating, paint heating, two-part foam and urethane heating, and DI water heating. The heater consists of a helical coiled tube that is cast into an aluminum body with tubular elements. The aluminum body serves as the heat transfer medium between the tubular element and the coiled tube that the fluid being heated passes through. According to the company, the construction of the heater allows it to be used where viscous or thermally sensitive materials are being heated, such as paints and resins, and flammable materials like fuels, solvents, and coatings. The aluminum mass acts as a Òthermal flywheelÓ and ensures accurate temperature control of the fluid to prevent degradation.

Shrink film wrap
Protective Packaging Corp., Carrollton, Texas
A new outdoor-grade shrink film product contains corrosion inhibitors as well as UV protection. Called Protect Wrap, it was conceived for applications requiring outdoor storage or transit of very large pieces of equipment, such as planes, tanks, compressors, electrical apparatus, generators, road equipment, cranes, etc. It is said to keep dust, bugs, and bird droppings off a protected product, as well as keep corrosion from happening without cracking or becoming brittle from sun exposure. The manufacturer suggests the product as a more cost-efficient alternative to tarpaulins. This inflammable product comes in thicknesses of 4 to 10 mils, and can be delivered in rolls up to 40 ft. wide and 200 ft. long. Larger coverage areas can be protected by overlapping material and bonding with a heat gun. When heated, the two materials will stick to each other, not to the product being wrapped.

Relay products
AutomationDirect, Cumming, Ga.
The AD-70-STM-1 socket timing module works with voltages from 24 to 240 V ac/dc and converts either the 783 or 784 Series relays to time delay relays. For simple timing applications, using the new timing module and a low-cost relay can be more cost-effective than an integrated timer, according to the company. This module also allows the user to replace the relay without harm to the timing circuit, reducing maintenance costs. The socket timing module has eight dipswitch selectable time scales ranging from 0.1 second to 10 days. These scales can be fine adjusted using the built-in potentiometer. The timing module has both transient and reverse polarity protection. With an operating temperature range of -25° to 55°C, the AD-70-STM-1 can be used in almost any application. The 784-4C-SKT-1 DIN rail mountable socket ($3) works with this module and with the 784 Series cube relays.
