The book introduces its subject at an understandable level, touching on the basic theory and concepts, available equipment, and practical issues relevant to the engineer, as well as providing several case studies. The aim of this book is to explain the principles and techniques of noise generation and measurement, and to indicate the methods available for using noise signals as the basis of a tool for condition monitoring. Among the subjects covered are basic concepts and terminology; practical difficulties encountered when measuring noise; the range of noise, measuring, analysis, monitoring, and recording equipment that is available, and actual case studies illustrating the successful application of noise measurement.

In technical processes involving liquids, it can be necessary to measure their thermophysical properties (thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat) efficiently and effectively. The authors believe that conventional methods and devices for measuring thermophysical properties are not adequate for measuring liquid in flow conditions. They assert that laminar flow methods and devices provide advantages over conventional TPP measurement methods and devices for assessing liquid flow. Following a review of traditional practices, they present information about and examples of laminar flow methods and measuring devices. Most of the references cited are from Russian research.
