Oil seal
Minco Products Inc., Minneapolis, Minn.
The company's FG3015 oil seal offers a way to keep oil from wicking along wires where they exit machine housings. The compression seal conforms tightly to the cable jacket and keeps oil inside the machine to 50 psi. Unlike feedthroughs or glass-to-metal seals, the seal position can be removed or adjusted in seconds. The new split grommet feature enables installation of the seal without threading the cable or wires through the grommet. Models are available for single cables or up to six individual wires, with diameters of 0.05 to 0.23 in. (1.3 to 5.6 mm). The oil seal is rated to 150°C and is suitable for sealing wires on temperature and vibration sensors, control system wiring, and small-diameter probes on motors, generators, turbines, and compressors.

Parallel valve system
Leslie Controls Inc., Tampa, Fla.
The S Transfer System is a versatile parallel valve system designed to handle wide load variations beyond the range of a single valve. It uses a combination of control valves and regulators to transfer flow to the valve best suited for the current steam load. It has also been retrofitted to solve poor control situations, safety valve popping problems, and intermittent low steam main pressure problems. The Class S Transfer Valve is a pneumatic switch that is used to select which of two parallel circuits will be active and prevent oscillation between circuits.

Duct liner
CertainTeed Corp., Valley Forge, Pa.
The ToughGard duct liner with enhanced surface repels moisture. But unlike reflective, continuous film coatings used on other duct liners, the "breathable" enhanced surface coating preserves the sound-dampening performance of the duct liner by allowing sound waves to pass through the open-cell structure and into the sound-absorbing glass fiber mat. The surface will help alleviate concerns about moisture that may enter a duct system due to improperly sealed duct joints or poorly installed and maintained HVAC systems.

Air-cooled chiller
McQuay International, Minneapolis, Minn.
Designed for quiet, reliable, and efficient operation, GeneSys air-cooled screw chillers help increase occupant comfort and reduce operating costs in schools, hospitals, offices, and other buildings. Together with aerodynamic fan blades and low-rpm motors, the chiller's single-screw compressor delivers low sound pressure levels that minimize background noise disruptions. Featured are solid-state starts, which improve reliability by monitoring power quality and minimizing compressor stress during start-up and shutdown. The GeneSys chiller meets or exceeds ASHRAE Standard 90.1.

Air regulator
Clippard Instrument Laboratory Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio
An adjustable plastic knob has been added to the firm's Minimatic air regulator. The 1-in. knob has a nonslip surface for ease of adjustment and is attached to the stainless steel stem with 1/4-20 threads. The air regulator permits pressure to be adjusted up or down as needed. The relieving version eliminates creepage of downstream pressure, while holding that pressure constant. The air regulator may be mounted with other controls, on a console or panel board, for remote control or pilot operation of larger regulators.

Ultrasonic soldering system
Misonix Inc., Farmingdale, N.Y.
The G-35 ultrasonic soldering system allows for the fluxless soldering of metals, and even exotic materials such as Noibium, ceramics, and glass by the application of heat and ultrasonic energy, as delivered via the tip of the ultrasonic soldering iron. Nitinol, normally considered unsolderable, can be joined with the G-35. The soldering iron comes in a variety of tip sizes and configurations. Ultrasonic soldering involves the use of ultrasonic energy to remove or clean the oxide coating on materials, so that the solder wets the surfaces.

Higher-capacity chillers
The Trane Co., La Crosse, Wis.
Extended-capacity DuplexCenTraVac chillers can produce up to 3,950 tons of cooling in a single machine at ARI conditions. The new chillers, nominally sized for 3,000 and 3,500 tons, are an extension of Trane's duplex technology. They come standard with the Trane Trace chiller controller, which provides accurate chiller control. This controller makes variable flow or process applications easier for Trane CenTraVac chillers. The chiller achieves high efficiency because of a direct-drive motor, multistage compressor design, and the use of low-pressure R-123 refrigerant.

Continuous cleaning
Steril-Aire Inc., Cerritos, Calif.
X-Mount UVC Emitters are designed to provide continuous, non-chemical cleaning of ducts and other HVAC surfaces. The ultraviolet devices come in five tube lengths (16, 20, 24, 30, and 36 in.) to fit most ductwork applications. These devices provide a non-polluting and permanent alternative for keeping surfaces free of mold and microbial contamination. The emitters are readily installed by making a 1-in. penetration into the duct wall and running the light across the width of the duct. Only the lamp or tube penetrates into the ductwork, while the power supply remains external. The UVC energy will rapidly "cook off" mold and other microbes.
