Condens- ing boiler Lochinvar Corp., Lebanon, Tenn. |
An extension of the residential boiler,
the Knight boiler has a fully modulating burner with 5:1 turndown and a
cascading feature that allows multiple boilers to be controlled by one central
boiler. The 5:1 turndown feature enables a Knight boiler to generate as
much or as little heat necessary to provide a consistent indoor temperature.
Since the Knight is able to adjust heat output according to demand, fuel
use is kept to a minimum. It has a 93 percent Department of Energy AFUE
efficiency rating on the 80 to 285s model and a 91 percent DOE thermal efficiency
rating on the 399 and 500 models. Only a modulating burner with advanced
condensing technology can offer that level of efficiency, according to the
company. Since the Knight can reduce its heat output as much as 80 percent,
indoor air temperature doesn't fluctuate between cycles. |

Dispensing lubrication precisely Oil-Rite Corp., Manitowoc, Wis. |
The PurgeX infrared lubrication system
combines the patented PurgeX positive displacement pump with programmable
logic and infrared sensing. The result is an exact amount of lubrication
dispensed with exceptional accuracy on a moving target, typically a chain.
More conventional methods dispense lubrication through a brush that is fed
by gravity. The rate of flow is subject to a number of variables, including
the type and condition of the applicator, operator adjustment (constant
tweaking), and inconsistent head pressure from the reservoir. To compensate
for the inherent inaccuracies of a gravity-fed system, most operators tend
to apply more lubricant than is necessary, causing avoidable problems. The
PurgeX infrared lubrication system synchronizes fluid dispensing with the
speed and number of links of a chain. |

Control option Watlow, St. Louis, Mo. |
Watlow has added Tru-Tune, an adaptive
control option, to its PPC-2000 programmable multiloop process control system.
This new option helps fine-tune PID control loops and adaptively tunes dynamic
systems that would otherwise have to be retuned by operators. The Tru-Tune
option improves tuning by automatically optimizing control parameters whenever
necessary to keep the system at the target temperature. When a system is
well tuned, the product is kept closer to the ideal processing temperature.
This improves yield and reduces wasteful scrap and the need for reworking
misprocessed material. Also, when the process variable tracks the set point
more accurately, the process or equipment spends less time warming up and
stabilizing, and is more available and productive, according to the company. |

Flow control valves Clippard Instrument Laboratory Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio |
Combination needle and check valve
flow controls are typically used to control airflow from air cylinders.
This controls the speed at which the piston strokes, either while extending
or retracting, depending on their location in the circuit. J-Series flow
control valves allow free flow from the inlet to the outlet past the needle
and check valve. In reverse flow, from the outlet to the inlet, the check
valve is sealed and the flow must now pass through the metered passage controlled
by the tapered adjustment needle. |

Strong air nozzle Exair Corp., Cincinnati, Ohio |
The 1/2 NPT Super Air Nozzle delivers
3.3 lbs. of strong blowing force when mounted 12 in. away from the target.
The force is more than four times that of ordinary air nozzles, making it
useful for blowing heavy materials or for applications where the air nozzle
can't be mounted close to the surface that is to be treated. The
aerodynamic design of the nozzle directs the air to a single point of convergence,
delivering a concentrated stream of high-velocity airflow with hard-hitting
force measured in pounds, not ounces. The compressed air is ejected through
a series of holes located in recessed grooves on the nozzle surface. This
assures safe operation since the airflow that exits the nozzle can't
be blocked. The nozzle is made of a zinc aluminum alloy. |
