Sandwich mounts
E-A-R Specialty Composites,
Indianapolis, Ind.
This firm's standard Isoloss urethane elastomer sandwich mounts are designed to provide high-performance shock protection, vibration isolation, and noise control in a wide range of OEM equipment applications. The mounts feature cure-bonded metal fasteners that limit the need for additional assembly hardware, and are available in 20 standard sizes, in diameters from 3/8 in. to 1 1/2 in., for loads from 1/2 lb. to 250 lbs. per isolator. Mounts are available in two proprietary formulations: Isoloss HD urethanes are exceptionally strong and exhibit high damping and uniform modulus throughout a broad temperature range; Isoloss VL urethanes are durable with low modulus, and provide good damping and stable material properties in widely varying temperatures. Both are said by the manufacturer to combine high damping performance and mechanical strength with excellent environmental resistance properties, and to require a minimum of sway space to deliver a desired level of shock protection. According to the company, these mounts, unlike mounting systems incorporating materials such as neoprene or natural rubber, effectively absorb mechanical energy, limit deflections and stresses, and dissipate the energy as low-grade heat.
