Capillary saturation porometer
Porous Materials Inc., Ithaca, N.Y.
The capillary saturation porometer determines pore volume without using mercury and also measures liquid permeability. The sample is soaked in a liquid that spontaneously fills the pores in the sample. The pressure of a nonreacting gas on the top of the sample is increased to displace the liquid from the pores. The volume of displaced liquid from the pores is measured. The pore diameter is obtained from pressure. Pore volume, diameter, and volume distribution are computed. To measure liquid permeability, pressure on the liquid maintained on top of the sample is increased, the volume of liquid flowing out of the sample is measured, and liquid permeability is computed.
