Linear potenti- ometers Omega Engineering, Stamford, Conn.	The LP801 series has been designed to measure linear position or displacement up to 48 in. The potentiometers feature front and rear bearings, anodized extruded aluminum housing, stainless-steel shaft, and precious-metal wipers and contacts. They provide high-resolution, absolute position measurement without external signal conditioners.

High- temperature couplings Ringfeder Corp., Westwood, N.J.	High-temperature Arcusaflex couplings operating with elastomeric silicone-rubber elements are said to be extremely well suited for high-temperature applications. In the range of 70°C to 180°C there are no changes in material characteristics during long-time operation. Torque transmission range is from 150 Nm to 40,000 Nm. Different designs with sae-flange connection measurements (sae 6.5-24 in.) are available.

Industrial vortex system George Fischer Inc., Tustin, Calif.	The new +GF+ Signet industrial vortex system has an injection-molded sensor and transmitter system that uses vortex technology to provide a versatile and cost-effective way to measure and transmit flow rates. Each system features state-of-the-art true union with socket fusion, butt fusion, or solvent cement socket connection options for application versatility. PVC, PP, or PVDF material options provide exceptional chemical compatibility. The transmitter provides an adjustable 4-20 mA signal and an open-collector sensor pulse output signal.

Vacuum- assisted still Westport Environmental Systems, Westport, Mass.	Vacuum-assisted Solvo-Salvager distillation systems allow in-plant purification and reuse of up to 98 percent of contaminated solvents. Systems are designed to process safely and efficiently a wide range of both flammable and nonflammable solvents with boiling points up to 500°F; they are available with capacities to 55 gallons per 8-hour shift. After a unit has been shut down and allowed to cool, sludge can be drained by opening a valve at the base of the system.

Switch caps C&K Components Inc., Watertown, Mass.	A number of caps are now available to fit the pn Series alternate-action pushbutton switches. The caps are molded of abs thermoplastic and are offered in a variety of colors including white, black, and red, with round, square, and rectangular shapes.

Temperature sensor Vespo Marketing Associates Inc., Thompson Ridge, N.Y.	The Series M50 infrared temperature sensor measures moving or hard-to-sense targets and has a wide range of outputs that can be specified to simulate a Type J or Type K thermocouple, 5 V dc or mV per °F or °C. Accuracy is 1.5 percent, repeat-ability is 0.25 percent, and resolution is 0.1 percent. Temperature range is -20°C to +300°C.

Hydraulic intensifier Power Team, Owatonna, Minn.	A new hydraulic intensifier converts low-pressure hydraulic pumps into high-pressure power sources. It can boost a pump from a 2000 psi/140 bar unit into a 10,000 psi/700 bar power source. The intensifier weighs just 7.3 kg and delivers a pressure ratio of 5:1. It operates single- or double-acting cylinders and tools such as jacks, crimpers, cable cutters, nut splitters, tire tools, and similar hydraulic-actuated devices.

Gasket materials Thermoseal Inc., Sidney, Ohio.	A wide range of Klingersil compressed, flexible graphite and ptfe gasket materials is now available from Klinger's North American licensee. They include metal- and wire-reinforced products and a wide variety of sheets for best general purpose and steam- and corrosion-resistant services. Other Klingersil materials provide superior to excellent load-bearing and creep-resistant properties.

Time delay relays SSAC Inc., Baldwinsville, N.Y.	The trdu Series of plug-in, switch-adjustable, multimode time delay relays is designed to simplify the selection of a plug-in time delay relay. One trdu replaces hundreds of conventional time delay relays. Industry-standard 8- and 11-pin base wiring makes substitution simple and fast with no rewiring required. The new series features 21 operating modes. Any one of the 10 single-function or 11 dual-function modes is selected by transferring one or more of the six programming switches. Time delays are available from 0.1 sec to over 1705 hr in eight ranges. Timing accuracy is ±0.1% and setting accuracy is ±1% over the full adjustment range.

Steam traps Nicholson Steam Trap, Walden, N.Y.	New ftn float and thermostatic steam traps are said to be excellent for use in systems where condensate and air need to be removed from the steam system quickly and continuously. The iron body traps have stainless steel internal parts for long life. They offer a universal four-port design, allowing four hookup combinations. Typical applications include unit and space heater applications, heat exchangers, reboilers, air heating coils, main steam drips, and process equipment.

Level measurement system Kistler-Morse, Bothell, Wash.	Sonologic II is a new ultrasonic leveling system that provides level readouts for up to 16 vessels of varying heights containing powders, solids, liquids, or slurries. Frequent scanning provides continuous level information for more accurate inventory management. Modular design permits easy system expansion and the flexibility to meet future needs.

Low- profile accelero- meter PCB Piezotronics Inc., Industrial Monitoring Instrumentation, Depew, N.Y.	The new 602A02 industrial low-profile accelerometer uses a high-output ceramic shear mode sensing element with built-in low-noise amplifier for strong signals in low-vibration applications. The ICP sensor offers the convenience of a side-exit connector and captive mounting bolt for securing the sensor in confined areas. Sensitivity is 500 mV/g and low-frequency response is to less than 0.5 Hz. The accelerometer is available with a two-pin military-style connector and is compatible with most predictive maintenance data collectors and on-line condition monitoring systems.

Safety valves Spence Engineering Co. Inc., Walden, N.Y.	A new line of safety valves features stainless steel seats and discs. The ASME Section I and VIII-approved valves also feature ring construction and two-ring control, which make them extremely dependable in terms of pop action, seat tightness, and repeat-ability. The Figure 32, 43, and 42A Series safety valves are available in sizes ranging from 1/2 in. to 21/2 in. for pressures to 300 PSI and temperatures to 422°F.

Flowmeter Eldridge Products Inc., Monterey, Calif.	The Master-Touch thermal mass flowmeter provides flow rate and total flow readings as well as continuous tracking and time stamping of maximum and minimum flows. Other features include I/O communications via rs-232 and rs-485 protocols. In-line and insertion models are available in both 115 V ac (230 V ac optional) and 24 V dc configurations. A double-sided NEMA 4 explosion-proof enclosure allows easy access for all connections to power supplies and monitoring devices.

Data- acquisition board Omega Engineering Inc., Stamford, Conn	DAQ-1100 has a sampling rate of up to 330 KHz (sample/sec) at a resolution of 12 bits. The analog inputs can be set for 16 single-ended or 8 differential. The gain is software programmable. Features include 32-bit digital I/O, two 12-bit D/A, and three 16-bit counters/timers. DAQ-1100 includes DaqEZ software for real-time data display and data logging to disk.

Double disc grinder Koyo Machinery U.S.A., Plymouth, Mich.	The advanced cnc-controlled kvd-450 precision, vertical spindle, double disc grinder can use either superabrasive or conventional grinding wheels. It can process parts up to 100 mm diameter and up to a thickness of 50 mm and is engineered for rapid changeover for a variety of part sizes and shapes.

Severe- service valve Tufline, Cincinnati, Ohio.	A new severe-service valve features a thermal shrink-seal lip which tightens the seal as the packing shrinks during thermal cycling. The lip is machined in the interior bore of the bonnet. Any radial shrinkage of the live-loaded ptfe packing causes the packing to compress tightly against the lip. The Xomox sleeved plug valve also employs a triple stem sealing system.

Automatic lubricator PLI Inc., Racine, Wis.	The new reusable Memolub self-contained automatic lubricator combines the compact size and function of a single-point lubricator with the capability of a miniature central automatic lubrication system. A patented positive displacement pump and its 200 psi lubrication ejection rate allow it to feed lubricant to up to eight lube points or remote up to 40 ft. from the bearing. A simple low-cost replacement kit is all that is required to use the lubricator again and again with only minutes required to change the lube cartridge and battery pack. The standard size holds a lube cartridge containing 120 cc of lubricant. The Mega size holds a lube cartridge containing 240 cc of lubricant.

Precision gram sensor Transducer Techniques Inc., Temecula, Calif.	The gs Series gram-force sensors are available in ranges of 10, 25, 30, 50, 100, 150, 250, and 1,000 grams full scale. The sensing end is a 6-32 tapped-through hole providing unlimited attachment possibilities for tension and/or compression from top or bottom. A bonded foil strain gauge full bridge provides a customer-specified output of 1 or 2 mV/V. Combined accuracy of nonlinearity and hysteresis is 0.1 percent of full scale or better. Suggested excitation is 10 V dc.

Vacuum transducers ICA MKS Instruments, HPS Div., Boulder, Colo.	The SensaVac 907 line of analog convection transducers has been expanded with additional flange connectors as well as a ce marked model. The Series 907 transducer is a sensor that measures vacuum pressure from 10Ð3 to 1,000 Torr. It is a convection-enhanced Pirani sensor integrated with an electronic control circuit. One or two setpoints are standard as well as an analog output. The transducer can be used as a system control element, relay, gauge, alarm, and remote sensor.

Ultrasonic thickness gauge KCH Dakota Instruments, Santa Cruz, Calif.	The DX-1 ultrasonic thickness gauge will measure the wall thickness of pipes, boiler tubes, tanks, castings, and other materials where access to only one side is available. A high-speed scan feature allows the scanning of an area for the thinnest reading. Other features include a backlit display, membrane keypad, and a sealed case. The gauge will operate for up to 200 hours on two aa batteries.

Industrial PCs Nortech Engineering Inc., East Walpole, Mass.	A new rack-mounted industrial pc system series is a complete preconfigured system that includes a ruggedized touch video monitor, industrial pc, and keyboard. Rack-mounted video monitors in 20-in., 17-in., and 15-in. sizes are available in combination with resistive, capacitive, or surface acoustic wave touch screens. Both standard and fault-tolerant pcs are available with either motherboard or passive backplane architecture. They can be configured with cpus, Pentium 100 MHz to Pentium II 300 MHz, as well as various memories and drives.

Factory floor controller Total Control Products, Melrose Park, Ill.	The GLC100 graphic logic controller is a new type of factory floor control that is said to be the first fully integrated controller that provides a graphic operator touch screen, embedded controller, and I/O or I/O network connectivity all in one device. The controller eliminates many of the costly tasks associated with automation during the design, integration, installation, and start-up phase of a project. Once the controller and operator interface are configured from a standard PC, the controller operates as a stand-alone control station. The risc-based controller allows the user to configure a complete control strategy without the use of a PLC. IEC 1131 Windows-based ladder logic provides an easy-to-use graphical environment for building control programs.

Output accelero- meter PCB Piezotronics Inc., Depew, N.Y.	The Model 357B10 miniature charge output accelerometer weighs 1 gram and is well suited for testing small objects or testing in confined or restricted areas having ambient temperatures ranging from -73°C to +177°C. The unit features a 1.5 pC/g sensitivity with a frequency range (+5%) of 10,000 Hz. The accelerometer is ground isolated and is available with an optional positive polarity output.

Input/output load module Toledo Transducers Inc., Holland, Ohio.	The Toledo Tonnage Load Module (ttlm), designed for critical force measurement applications, replaces the previous tlm. The ttlm is a load measurement device without a display or alarms. It is used as an input to programmable controllers and data acquisition systems, which will themselves provide display and alarm control functions. The module provides stability and noise rejection.

Mount isolators Stock Drive Products, New Hyde Park, N.Y.	Two new series of eight cup mount isolators are designed for shock and vibration isolation of sensitive electronic, electrical, and mechanical equipment. The 10Z57 and 10Z58 series provides protection in all directions and are available in eight static load ranges from 8 lb to 110 lb. Nominal natural frequency is 30 Hz and frequencies above 45 Hz can be isolated effectively. Two housings are available. One is steel with electro-zinc plating; the other is aluminum with a chemical coating per mil-C-5541

Temperature/ relative- humidity recorder Omega Engineering Inc., Stamford, Conn.	Microprocessor-based CT485B has been designed to plot temperature and relative humidity on double-sided 8-in. chart paper, in red and blue chart lines. The lines appear on the front display. The unit can be benchtop or wall-mounted. It includes high- and low-alarm points for audible and relay contact. Each includes 120 chart papers and two sets of pens for 1-, 7-, or 32-day operation.

Multi- dopant- blend tungsten Diamond Ground Products Inc., Agoura Hills, Calif.	TriMix tungsten is a multidopant blend. It is said to take the best qualities of three "rare-earth" tungstens and combine them into a high-performance blend, and it is also claimed to be an ideal replacement for radioactive 2 percent thoriated tungsten. Features include reliable arc starting, especially after numerous prior ignitions; reduced burn-off rate; prolonged service life; and high quality of arc.

Ultrasonic sensor EDP Co., Livonia, Mich.	The Sonaswitch Mini-S (two switched outputs) and Mini-A (analog output) ultrasonic transducers have a diameter of 1.70 in., a depth of less than 1 in., and a weight of 0.6 oz. All measurements are temperature compensated, providing greater accuracy over a wide range of operating temperatures. The sensor operates on 5 V dc with a maximum of 30 mA current. Switched outputs are filtered for three consecutive hits/misses before activation/deactivation. The analog output is filtered to the approxi-mate formula Vout = 0.9 (Vnew value) + 0.1 (Vpast average value).

Liquid level switch Cosense Inc., Hauppauge, N.Y.	The MoPro 4 is a high-throughput, dsp level performance, pc bus motion controller capable of independent and simultaneous axis movement in any or all axes. It is intended for use with both servos and steppers. The controller offers three to six axes of motion control without relying on the host cpu to calculate complex move profiles. The controller features three to six axes of linear interpolation and simultaneous coordinated path movement, a servo update rate of 500 µsec, and a step rate of 1,000,000 steps/second with up to 128 user-defined variables and 1,024 variable array elements.

PC bus motion controller Cleveland Motion Controls Inc., Pittsburgh, Pa. Particle filtration system Dynaflow Inc., Fulton, Md.	The Dynaperm system for enhanced filtration of particles from liquids is said to produce flux rate increases of a factor of 20 over conventional cross flow filtration, with comparable or improved effluent quality. The system uses a cross-flow microfiltration concept which employs thick-walled microporous plastic tubes. The micron-range pore size and structure can be controlled during manufacturing.

Motion controller Delta Tau Data Systems, North-ridge, Calif.	The pmac2-Lite motion controller is a single-slot, four-axis multitasking controller that supports all the popular-to-drive interfaces including analog ±10 V phase commands, direct digital pwm commands, and the pulse and direction commands and optical ring network commands for step, microstep, and step-replacement servo drives. The new controller provides a 120 MHz clock frequency, which results in 12-bit resolution at 30 kHz for pwm control, an 18 µsec per axis servo update time, a 40 MHz encoder count rate, an 18-bit analog output, a 10 MHz pulse output rate, and the 125 megabit/second macro optical ring network data rate.

Force- sensing clevis pins Strainsert, West Conshohocken, Pa.	New intrinsically rated load sensing clevis pins and bolts can be used in hazardous locations and with oils, chemicals, fuels, and explosives. The pins are approved for Class I and IIÐDivision 1 applications in accordance with the applicable U.S., Canadian, and European standards. The pins contain an integral 4-20 mA output from an internal amplifier sealed within the clevis pin body.

Fabric dust collector AAF International, Louisville, Ky.	The Design M FabriPulse pulse-jet fabric dust collector has been designed to eliminate filter bag installation problems. Each 42-bag filter assembly can be replaced in minutes by sliding out the tube sheet header. Cages are built into the filter bags to further reduce maintenance costs. The collectors are available in 4- or 6-ft. filter lengths and in a wide variety of fabrics. Collection efficiencies are 99+ percent. An adjustable solid-state timer minimizes compressed air usage and maximizes filter bag life for improved operating efficiency.

Spectral- response photodiode Centro Vision Inc., Newbury Park, Calif.	A new wide-spectral-response 100 mm2 silicon photodiode with a bnc connector, the osd7-bnc, features a quartz window and useful response from 190 to 1100 nm. Typical ultraviolet response is 0.23 a/w at 254 nm. Applications include bench measurements, laser power monitoring, and uv intensity monitoring.

Nonmagnetic coupling Helical Products Co. Inc., Santa Maria, Calif.	The nonmagnetic A Series maintenance-free coupling meets performance demands over a wide range of applications, including drive systems for encoders, instrumentation, lead screws, small pumps, feed rollers, and anywhere a light-duty coupling is required. An array of options in a variety of diameter sizes enables the designer to tailor the A Series to specific applications. The coupling is available in aluminum in shaft sizes of 3/32 in. to 5/8 in.

High- speed chucks Autoblok Corp., Wheeling, Ill.	Model fhk-n chucks for high-speed turning are now available in sizes from 6.5 in. to 20 in. and are rated for up to 8,000 rpm. The chucks may be ordered with inch or metric serrations, compatible with all types of top jaws. The 6.5-in. chuck is guaranteed to retain 50 percent of its grip force at 8,000 rpm.

Point level detector Miltronics Inc., Arlington, Texas.	The Pointek cls200 capacitance point level switches provide level detection in applications with liquids, solids, slurries, and interfaces. The switches are installed easily, even in small-diameter pipes, and operate independently of the influence of a tank wall. A wide range of configurations is available, including rigid, sanitary, and extended (cable or rigid) sensor models.

Gas- discharge tube CP Clare Corp., Beverly, Mass.	The cg820 series bipolar gas-discharge tube has a mechanical outline similar to a standard fuse, allowing it to be mounted within equipment using a standard clip. When the tube is presented with a transient voltage, it acts like a voltage-dependent switch diverting the transient to ground, not absorbing the energy within the device as do diodes and varistors. The tube can handle surge currents up to 20 kA.
