| MOSFET
switches Micrel Inc., San Jose, Calif. |
Both the MIC2545 and MIC2549 fully protected high-side MOSFET switches are
designed for power distribution applications in USB and ACPI designs as well
as in board hot-swap applications. Both models have a 35-milli-ohm switch
that offers full protection to any system or load, and are protected against
short circuits by thermal shutdown; fault reporting is via an open-collector
FLAG output. Under-voltage lockout prevents the switch from turning on until
the input voltage is stabilized above 2.5 V. MIC2549 also includes a
circuit-breaker function; whenever the device enters thermal shutdown, output
is latched off until the controller resets it.

| Planetary
gearheads Bayside Motion Group, Port Washington, N.Y. |
Stealth Right-Angle Helical Planetary Gearheads incorporate the company's all- helical Stealth planetary technology into a compact design. HeliCrown gear tooth design uses tooth crowning, resulting in less than 70 dB noise. The ring gear is machined into the stainless steel housing, and internal gears are hardened with the Plasma Nitriding heat-treating process to provide a 68 Rc surface and ductile core. Gearheads allow input speeds up to 4,000 rpm and provide 10 minutes backlash with a 5-minute backlash option and torques up to 2,500 Nm. They are available in sizes from 60 mm to 300 mm and ratios from 5:1 through 100:1 (the compact design allows the gearhead size to remain the same, regardless of ratio). Gearheads are sealed to IP65 for protection in harsh environments. |

| Shaker
control system Dactron Inc., Milpitas, Calif. |
The new 16-channel Dual DSP Shaker Control System for vibration testing and analysis of large or fragile test articles permits the use of up to 16 simultaneous inputs to control, limit, and monitor vibration at many positions on test articles, such as satellites, airframes, military electronic modules, automobiles, and telecommunications electronics. The controller can be expanded from 2 to 16 channels in one-channel increments. Any of the channels can be used for multipoint control, or all may be used for vibration limiting and structural response analysis. Real-time processing architecture handles the control loop independently of the PC processor. Dynamic range is 120 dB for FFT mode analysis of input signals, 95 dB for closed-loop random control, and 100 dB for closed-loop swept sine control. |

| Machine
vision system Cognex Corp., Natick, Mass. |
Pastelnspect is an integrated machine vision software and hardware package for inspecting defects that occur during the printed circuit board (PCB) screen printing process. The software inspects the PCB pads immediately after printing to determine if too much or too little solder paste (used to bond the leads of surface mount devices to the PCB) has been applied, or if it has been deposited in the wrong place. Highly reflective PCB board and pad surfaces or variations in the texture of the paste as it dries are said not to affect the system's reliability. Product package consists of the software, with PCB alignment capability built in, the company's MVS-8100 PCI frame grabber, and a Windows-based graphical user interface. |
