Recorder interface system Omega Engineering, Stamford, Conn.	The new om-34 recorder interface system converts a standard black-and-white or color Epson-compatible printer into a strip chart recorder. The system consists of the om-34 interface unit and one or two four-channel input modules, for a total of up to eight channels of recording. Input modules are available for trending thermocouple, rtd, voltage, process current, and strain gauge input signals on the existing printer. The system produces full-sized graphs on low-cost, standard fan-fold paper.

Platinum RTD sensors RdF Corp., Hudson, N.H.	Platinum RTD sensors, closely coupled to a film metal-contact plate, have been encapsulated in silicone rubber for insulation, for conformance to surfaces, and to ensure an accurate surface temperature measurement. Operating temperature range is —50° to 232°C continuous as mounted. Interchangeability is ą0.3°C or 0.6 percent of temperature, whichever is greater, IEC 751 Class B. The sensors will have less than 0.05°C drift per five years at rated service temperature with proper mounting.

Heat exchangers Exergy Inc., Hanson, Mass.	Tube-in-tube sample-cooler heat exchangers have been designed for applications involving high pressure, low flow, and high differential temperatures. Three standard sizes are available. Joining existing models 413 and 448 is model 528, the largest tube-in-tube heat exchanger. They are made of 316L stainless steel.

Positioning equipment Oriel, Stratford, Conn.	Micro-positioning equipment ranging from micrometer-driven stages to high-resolution, submicron, computer-controlled dc- and stepping-motor-driven positioners are available. Encoder Mikes and Motor Mikes have been designed to push an axial load of up to 10 kgf at speeds of 300 ľ/s and higher loads at lower speeds. Travel ranges vary from 1,270 to 5,100 ľ.

Tubing pumps Barnant Co., Arrington, Ill.	Masterflex tubing pumps have been designed for OEM requirements. The self-priming positive-displacement pumps run at flow rates up to 720 gph and pressures to 40 psig. Models are available in 115 and 230 V ac as well as 12 and 24 V dc. Panel mounting is optional for many of the pump configurations.

Servo- amplifier Maxon Precision Motors, Inc., Burlingame, Calif.	The ADS 50/5 servo-amplifier provides speed or torque control for dc brush motors up to 250 watts. Four-quadrant servo-amplifier has controlled speed in CW and CCW directions accelerating or braking, and the PWM frequency of 50 kHz makes it compatible with most low-inductance motors. Tachometer, encoder, or IxR-compensated speed or torque control modes are selectable via dip switches; speed or torque is determined via an external ą10-V signal or a potentiometer. Supply voltage is 12 to 50 V dc, and maximum current is 5 A continuous, or 10 A intermittent. Outputs include ą10 V signals proportional to speed and current as well as an open collector "ready" signal.

Bushings and bearings Graphite Metallizing Corp., Yonkers, N.Y.	Graphalloy graphite/metal-alloy self-lubricating bushings and bearings have been designed to work in hostile environments from cryogenic to 750°F and in solvents and acids, in pumps, mixers, ovens, furnaces, dryers, and dampers. The materials do not melt or cold-flow. They provide a low coefficient of friction and perform where grease, oil, or plastics fail. Graphalloy is corrosion-resistant in most liquids, including sulfuric acid and caustics, and does not gall when run with close tolerances against rotating metal elements.

Wide format copier Ricoh Corp., West Caldwell, N.J.	The fw870 advanced electrostatic engineering copier handles 7.5 copies per minute of D-size (24-by-36-in.) material. The copier is intended for midrange applications with monthly D size copy volume in the 2,000 to 5,000 range. The copier is said to be ideal for architectural or engineering firms with in-house reproduction departments, where it can provide a replacement for diazo units.

Crusher Franklin Miller Inc., Livingston, N.J.	The 1075-L Delumper crusher handles homogenous or heterogeneous materials and waxy, resinous, hard, or soft conglomerates without degrading the product or causing a rise in temperature. Output sizes are adjustable by changing the speed or the comb. The size of the material handled can be as large as the throat opening. The crusher has a fully enclosed, dust-tight body. Optional features are a removable door for easy access and a hopper for feeding. The crusher is designed to be used in open or closed systems such as ducts, chutes, or pipes and requires only 13-in. headroom space in-line.

Pressure transducer Patriot Sensors & Controls Corp., Simi Valley, Calif.	The km Series 210 pressure transducers feature microprocessor-controlled, digitally corrected output for high-accuracy performance. The microprocessor automatically compensates for nonlinearity and thermal sensor errors and provides an output with accuracies of better than ą0.5 percent over the complete temperature range from —40°C to +125°C. The series operates with a variety of voltage outputs ranging from 0 to 5 to 1 to 11 V dc and voltage inputs of 10 to 40 V dc.

Sample filters Whatman Inc., Haverhill, Mass.	Balston stainless-steel sample filters have been designed to protect process analyzers and monitoring equipment. Models 31S6, 31G, 41S6, 41G, and 91S6 remove solids and liquids from gases with 99.99-percent efficiency at 0.01 ľ and remove solid particles from liquids to 0.2 ľ.

Proximity switch Efector Inc., Exton, Pa.	The Quadronorm Plus proximity switch includes a setup LED. Extended sensing ranges reduce the chance of damage to the switch. Visibility on the output LED is 360 degrees. The switch is a two-wire dc device and, depending on how it is wired, it provides any one of four output functions: positive switching, normally open; positive switching, normally closed; negative switching, normally open; and negative switching, normally closed. The switch is available in threaded tubular metal body styles in 12-, 18-, and 30-mm diameters. Sensing ranges for flush-mountable units are 4, 5, and 15 mm and for non-flush-mountable models are 7, 12, and 22 mm.

Rivet tool Emhart Industrial, Shelton, Conn.	The POP 5400 long-stroke rivet tool has a modular design that allows operators to change stroke lengths and add accessories. The full-range, air-hydraulic system can be used for rivet setting in a variety of applications. With a full 1-in. stroke, PRT5400LS sets commercial blind rivets up to 1/4 in. in diameter, T rivets, and large secondary-head rivets.

Mass- flow instrument Cincinnati Test Systems Inc., Village of Cleves, Ohio.	Sentinel F-21 has been designed to respond within milliseconds to actual flow. Each sensor is calibrated at 32 points. Only one sensor is used for the measurement of low-leak rates or higher flow values owing to the ultrawide flow range of the transducers. Because of the large flow path inherent to theinstrument, pressure drop and contamination from moisture and dirt are minimized.

Rolling- carriage systems KabelSchlepp America Inc., Milwaukee, Wis.	A carriage system has been designed with a moving carriage attached to a fixed track or rails. It keeps typical loading—except acceleration and deceleration loads—off the cable carrier itself. Rolling-carriage systems include integral drum rollers and wheels as part of the rolling trolley to allow cable and hose carriers to be applied to very large and heavy-duty applications. An integral rolling-support trolley pulls the drums, maintaining chain support throughout the system's full range of movement.

Socket accessory set Truecraft Tools, Somerset, N.J.	The three-piece 1/4-in. Drive Extra-Long 11 1/2 in. Socket Accessory Set allows technicians to grasp hard-to-reach fasteners. The set includes a full polished flex head reversible ratchet handle and a full polished flex handle in addition to a full polished extension with hex head drive knurled for easy hand turning. The set is forged from chrome vanadium steel.

Valve position indicator/ transmitter Dwyer Instruments Inc., Michigan City, Ind.	The Series qv Quick-View valve position indicator/transmitter combines discrete rotary or linear valve position indication with control provided by up to four mechanical or reed switches or a 4-20 mA transmitter output with up to two switches. Durable polycarbonate housing is rated nema 4, 4X. Minimum/maximum rotation is 5°/360° (switches only) and 25°/180° (with transmitter). spdt switch choices include 1A gold contact and 10 A mechanical types plus 3 A rated reed style.

Electro- pneumatic transducer Marsh Bellofram, Newell, W.Va.	The T-1500 electropneumatic transducer now has two new zero-based psi ranges: 0 to 30 and 0 to 60. The transducer provides precision electropneumatic control to actuated valves, positioners, and final control elements. It is said to be ideally used for applications that require a vibration-resistant and high flow control device.

Indexers E. W. Lancaster Inc., Chicago, Ill.	The it and tr Series of cam-operated indexers by cds start at 4 in. tall and go to load capabilities of over 20 hp. Features such as two-stop models and crossed roller bearings for heavy load support make them suitable for any automation application. Reducers, motors, and overload protection can be added for a complete drive package.

Digital- control monitor Control Instruments Corp., Fairfield, N.J.	A stationary hazardous-gas monitoring system, SmartMaxII, has been designed to handle readings from up to four different types of sensors. A single SmartMaxII includes sensors for combustible gas, oxygen, and toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide. A 4- to 20-mA analog output is standard as well as an RS485 serial port, plus three onboard programmable relays.

Automated lathe Bridgeport Machines Inc., Bridgeport, Conn.	The EZPATH S automated lathe features variable speeds through two gear ranges, constant surface-speed control, programmable speeds up to 4,000 rpm, and traverse rates up to 294 ipm. A PC-based control allows operators to select manual, semiautomatic, or fully automatic turning capabilities, including chamfers, tapers, radii, and threading. The lathe provides 40 in. between centers, with a 17-in. swing over bed, an 8-in. swing over cross slide, and a 2-in. bar capacity.

Steel couplings Stafford Manufacturing Corp., Woburn, Mass.	Heavy-duty steel couplings have been designed to provide three times the holding strength of conventional couplings for handling high-impact loads. The couplings are available in one- or two-piece styles with 6 or 12 screws. They are available in 3Ú4- to 21Ú2-in. I.D. sizes with or without keyways. A 1-in. coupling transmits approximately 700 ft-lb of torque without keyways.

Mixer seals Flex-A-Seal, Essex Junction, Vt.	Mixer seals have been designed for expensive-batch containment, zero-emission regulations, high-run out shafts, system shocks, vacuum service, food-grade products, or dry media. Four basic designs include the Style 85 split-cartridge seal, dual wet-mixer seals, dual gas-mixer seals, and single dry-running seals for seal combinations.

Laser alignment systems Monarch Monitoring, Amherst, N.Y.	A new Easy Laser family of low-cost laser alignment systems includes several models. The alignment tool is a lightweight, easy-to-operate, battery-powered system consisting of two rugged aluminum measurement sensors and a handheld control unit with a graphic liquid crystal display. Two laser beams are used to provide auto calibration and simple aiming before completing the final alignment. Shafts and couplings to be aligned can be separated by up to 66 ft. Up to 25 sets of readings are stored and can be sent to a remote computer or directly printed on-site using an optional battery-powered printer. The sa-10 and sa-20 models are full-featured systems with maximum measuring distances of 33 ft and 66 ft, respectively. The sa-Basic is a full-function entry-level system with a simplified four-key control key pad.

Fastener installation system Penn Engineering & Mfg. Corp., Danboro, Pa.	The Pemserter Series 2000 fastener-installation press system features a state-of-the-art programmable logic controller and touch-screen controls to minimize operator training and greatly simplify use. A self-diagnostic system allows an operator to work with increased speed, accuracy, and confidence. The press features a 24-in./61-cm throat depth and cycle rates ranging from 2750 strokes/hour to 3600 strokes/hour, with a ram force of 500 to 16,000 lb/2.7 to 71.2 kN.

Mini- machining system Nikcole Inc., Fairfield, N.J.	Nikcole Mini-Systems are mini cutting tools designed for external and internal grooving, full-radius grooving threading, turning, copying, and cut-off operations in a variety of materials in narrow widths from 0.5 mm. The system includes carbide cutting inserts with two cutting edges and uses two tool holders, one for all external cutting operations and one for all internal cutting operations. Standard inserts are stocked in widths from 0.5 to 3.0 mm in coated and uncoated carbide grades.

Miniature drive gearhead HD Systems Inc., Hauppauge, N.Y.	Two new reduction ratios are now offered for this company's smallest harmonic drive gearhead. Ratios of 50:1, 80:1, and 100:1 make the precision reducer suitable for applications where higher speed or resolution are required. The high-accuracy, zero-backlash gears measure only 20 mm in diameter and deliver rated torques up to 2.6 in.-lb and peak torques of 9.1 in.-lb with input speeds up to 10,000 rpm. The gearheads are available either with an input shaft or as a close couple unit suitable for direct mounting to a servo or stepper motor.

Air bearings New Way Machine Components Inc., Aston, Pa.	Vacuum preloaded air bearings hold themselves down while gliding at a predetermined height above the guide surface. They allow lightly loaded stages to operate with high stiffness with damping. The bearings do not require two parallel flat guide surfaces. Both the x and y axes can be supported by a single bearing plane, eliminating the need for stacked linear axes. The air bearings eliminate pitch and roll errors inherent in stacked axes and reduce stack height and stiffness.

Proportional valves Parker Hannifin Corp., Hy-draulic Valve Div., Elyria, Ohio.	The new d1fm Series of electrohydraulic proportional directional control valves features a high-response, direct-actuated servo valve with high resolution at low command inputs. It is designed for more precise control of position loops, force loops, and machine-tool feed rates. The series is rated for maximum operating pressures of 4500 psi. Four-position spool capability provides a predictable flow configuration in the event of a power failure to the drive electronics.
