Venting solution W.L. Gore & Associates Inc., Elkton, Md. |
A new protective vent with metal housing
performs successfully even in extreme conditions, such as widely fluctuating
temperatures, extreme moisture, and large amounts of environmental contaminants,
according to the company. Like other Gore vents, this product provides good
protection and pressure equalization for electrical enclosures, outdoor
electronics, domestic appliances, and a range of other products containing
electronic components. Gore protective vents allow air to pass freely through
housings, so they virtually eliminate the stress caused by sudden changes
in temperature and pressure that can compromise gaskets or housing seals.
These vents also provide the advantage of easy access to sensitive electronics
for maintenance without allowing contaminants, such as water, chemicals,
oil, or dust, to enter the housing. Gore vents typically are used in pressure
or gas sensors, in electrochemical sensors that may be exposed to harsh
chemicals, or in battery-operated devices that can develop internal explosive
atmospheres due to hydrogen buildup. |

Thread sealants Devcon, Danvers, Mass. |
Permatex brand thread sealants secure
pipe fittings in many applications. By preventing the loosening caused by
vibration, tape shredding, solvent evaporation, and temperature cycling, they prevent troublesome leaks that waste valuable liquids and energy in compressed-air, hydraulic, and other piping systems. These anaerobic thread sealants provide reliable locking of metal pipe fittings, sealing instantly for low-pressure testing, then curing to the burst strength of most piping systems. Resistant to moisture and corrosion, all formulations withstand temperatures from -65° to at least 300°F, and contain a lubricant to prevent galling and simplify assembly and disassembly. They are available in a range of grades and strengths. |

Welding partner Valtra Inc., Pico Rivera, Calif. |
The high-performance Ground Hog clamp
was designed to solve the problem of inadequate grounding of the weld arc
in all types of welding applications. The Ground Hog prevents current restriction
by providing a large copper contact point, and sturdy, formidable clamping
pressure, which facilitates the transfer of electrical current in a full
circuit. According to the company, inferior clamps often fail to adequately
deliver the electrical current, resulting in the heating, failure, and destruction
of the clamp. The Ground Hog is an assembly of an insulated copperhead cartridge
combined with a Strong Hand pliers, or Strong Hand sliding arm clamp. The
strong clamping forces of both models (pliers, 465 lbs.; sliding arm clamp,
1,000 lbs.) give the Ground Hog a secure path for the electrical current.
To further ensure a complete arc, the Ground Hog controls the electrical
current by isolating the two most important points: the contact surface
and the transfer to the cable connection. The Ground Hog is rated at 500
amps. |
